This is a grim looking infantryman marching in the cold of the Ardennes, a Garand slung over his right shoulder and carrying a German metal machine gun ammo box in his left hand. He wears a wool melton and M1936 musette bag on his back, and boots with leather gaiters on his feet. The box photo shows his hands painted as it wearing gloves, but they’re not discernable in the sculpting.

Otherwise the sculpting is sharply detailed and there’s nary a seam to be seen. He comes with a canteen and entrenching tool, the handle of which was broken in my box as was the bayonet attached to the Garand. The figure stands under 6’.

While the German ammo box might seem an odd accessory, it wouldn’t be unusual for a soldier to scavenge such a box to carry his own extra ammo. When I used this figure for my Hürtgen Forest diorama, I gave him a .30 ammo box and made him part of a machine gun team.
