U.S. Paratroopers With Thompson and Garand
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

Nemrod
N35005

This is one of Nemrod's earliest offerings, and was offered at one time under the ADV/Azimut label. One paratrooper crouches with his M1 Garand, tipped with a bayonet, at the ready, while his partner raises his Thompson M1 submachine gun. Both soldiers wear the M1942 parachute uniform: a coat with four bellows pockets with slanted flaps and integral cloth belt, and trousers with large cargo pockets. Reinforcement patches of material, often of colors shaded that varied from the overall uniform, were sown over the knees and elbows.

The soldiers wear netting over their M1C helmets; unlike in later Nimrod paratrooper sets, there are no straps and chin cups included for the helmets. The rifleman has a bandage pack attached to the netting and a bandolier of ammo strapped across his chest, while a musette bag is molded to the back of the machine gunner. Most of the additional gear, like bandage pouches and fighting knives, is molded to the figures. The only extras, aside from a pair of magazine pouches for the Tommy gunner, are canteens and M1943 entrenching tools (an alternative would be the M1910 tools found in Tamiya equipment sets).

These figures come in four pieces, the arms and head separate from the body piece. Parts are crisply sculpted and molded, with a minimal amount of flash and seams to clean up. There are no locator pins for the arms, and the weapons do not have hands molded onto them, so care will be necessary in aligning the parts for gluing.

The figures stand less than 6' tall. They are compatible in size with DML's "U.S. Army Airborne (Normandy 1944)" and would work well together in a nice diorama along with Nemrod's other fine paratroopers.
