U.S. Infantryman - Ardennes 1944
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

This is the first GI figure from Mantis Miniatures, and it is an excellent arrival for U.S. Army fans. It compares quite favorably to Alpine and Warriors in both sculpting (by L. Borget) and casting. The figure's stance is quite natural, and the right shoulder is raised slightly to match the elevated arm holding the Tommy gun. In his left hand, the soldier carries his other woolen glove. The melton overcoat is nicely rendered (though I'd paint it a bit darker mix of field drab with a touch of brown than shown on the box art). His buckle boots with the leather gaiter are infantry issue, but if you had some spare paratrooper boots to swap he could easily represent the 101st or 82nd Airborne in the Bulge.

He is equipped only with a pouch slung over his shoulder. You could add another ammo pouch or canteen from your spares if you wish. The face has a good weary look, with a cigarette dangling from his lips.

The soldier comes in on the tall side at 6'3" but his weapon is scaled at 1/35 like Tamiya or DML submachine guns.

This tough guy will be a fine addition to any vignette or diorama. I hope he'll be the first of many from Mantis.
