The Rescue
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

This is a simple offering that reflects an aspect of the war that we tend to forget — the contact between GIs and civilians. Verlinden produced several nice sets of liberators and locals, and "The Rescue" is a fine continuation of that theme.

The GI and girl are molded as one piece. Each has a single separate arm to attach, as well as the girl's uninjured foot, and both feet of the GI. The soldier's head and right hand, carrying a Thompson submachine gun, are also separate. For some reason, I got two sets of feet for the GI, which are canvas leggings over service shoes. The soldier wears the M1941 jacket and M1923 cartridge belt — typically used by a rifleman — but has no ammo pouch or bag for the Tommy gun or any additional equipment.

Curiously, the product photo shows a cartridge pouch between his right arm and bandage pouch, but there is no additional pouch included in my set, so it's hard to tell if there was a production change or I got two extra feet instead of the pouch.

The sculpting of the figures offers nice detail. While there were no significant seams, the girl's head and upper body had more than a dozen air bubbles, including a very significant one under her chin.

Overall, this a nice little piece that can be improved upon and will fit well with other civilian figures from Verlinden, Sol, and Junior Town.
